How Dentures Are Created

Posted .

Are you missing some or all of your permanent teeth? Our dentist may recommend dentures to restore your smile. Dentures are removable appliances that can act as a partial or full set of teeth.

Full dentures are used if all of the permanent teeth are missing. A flesh-colored base with replacement teeth attached is placed over the gums. If only some teeth are missing, a partial denture is used. Partial dentures are often attached to the existing teeth with metal clasps.

After Dr. Timothy Dinkelman determines what type of denture is right for you, your denture can be designed and created. This process takes a few weeks and several appointments. To design and prepare your denture, several impressions are made of your jaw. In addition, measurements are taken of how your jaws relate to each other. Models are made in the exact position and shape of your future denture using these impressions and measurements. Our dentist will have you try on the model several times so that the shape, fit, and color of the denture can be checked. Any needed adjustments will be made and when everything is as it should be, the final denture is cast. Once your denture is ready, the fit, color, and shape will be checked once more and any final adjustments are made.
